Abstract

The to‐do list at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) for 2012, and into 2013, ranges from revisions to the Total Coliform Rule to electronic delivery of Consumer Confidence Reports to the third round of regulatory determinations. It also includes such issues as continued stakeholder discussions regarding the Long Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule, perchlorate, the third Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule, and revisions to the Lead and Copper Rule. For a preview of the overall regulatory picture, be sure to read this month's DC Beat column. Details are provided about the five major regulatory issues USEPA acted on in 2011 to set the stage for what's coming in 2012 and beyond. Guidance is also given as to how future regulations may affect water systems, along with how utilities can become better prepared to address these regulations.
