Charophytes (Charales) from Samos and Ikaria (Greece) collected in 2013 and report on some localities in Skiathos (Greece)

  • Samos and Ikaria are the two southernmost islands of the Northeast Agean Islands

  • Seven species of charophytes were found in Samos (Lamprothamnium papulosum, Chara canescens, C. vulgaris, C. gymnophylla, C. corfuensis, Tolypella nidifica and T. glomereta) and in Ikaria one species (Chara vulgaris)

  • Species richness in Samos is due to a variety of different habitats including brackish water lakes, running brackish water, fresh water pools and slowly moving rivers
