Abstract

The Charles A. Whitten Medal of Honor was established in May 1984 by the American Geophysical Union for the purpose of acknowledging outstanding contributions to the development of geodesy and its applications to the form and dynamics of the earth and the planets. The Charles A. Whitten Medal subcommittee has unanimously agreed to award this, its first honor, to Dr. Charles A. Whitten, a man held in high, even reverential, regard by the geophysical community.
