Abstract

For design and operation, it is useful to know the charging behaviour of high-voltage impulse generators. The problem is one of finding the sum of the voltages along a uniform RC line as a function of time, for a step input. It is shown that the response is very nearly a simple exponential curve having a time constant (2/π)3 times the total RC product for the line.
