Abstract

In this paper we investigated charging characteristics in vacuum on surface roughness of alumina and electric field distribution. The alumina insulator was placed between electrodes, and the surface charge due to field electron emission and secondary electron emission was generated. From measurement result, we quantitatively discussed charge polarity and charge density on the surface for various types of electric field distribution. Finally, we could successfully propose concept of charging control on alumina insulator in vacuum
