Abstract
We have considered a charged network theory as a model of polyelectrolytes. The charges are placed at the junctions. The formalism of a convected coordinate system is used to deduce the constitutive equation via the Helmholtz free energy. Steady viscometric and elongational flows as well as small-amplitude oscillatory flows are examined. The predicted shear stress is compared with experimental data and good agreement is achieved. The relation between elongational viscosity and viscometric functions is deduced. In small-amplitude oscillatory flow one recovers linear viscoelasticity.
