Abstract

In an ionic model for (Hg,Cd)Te, dislocation jogs are shown to be charged and to act as sources for cation vacancies. The charged cation jogs act as donors. This model is shown to be consistent with observations of p→n transitions in deformed (Hg,Cd)Te and with observations of charge transport by dislocations in II–VI compounds.
