Abstract

A simple model of the electronic charge transfer from adsorbed alkali atoms to a transition metal substrate is proposed and applied to experimental data. The model includes the dependence both on the type of alkali (through its electronegativity) and on the crystallographic orientation of the adsorbent (through its work function).
