Abstract

A one-dimensional microscopic quantum theory for charge-density waves (CDWS) scattered by single impurities is presented. It extends Barnes, Tutto and Zawadowski's work (1983, 1985) in considering both backward- and forward-scattering terms in the coupling of the CDW with an impurity. In the strong- and weak-coupling limits, the pinning force acting on the CDW is the same as that used when considering just the backward-scattering term, while the bound state and the electron density of states are different.
