Abstract

The thermodynamic potential of an electron gas with the long-range Coulomb interaction is shown to be represented in terms of charge and spin fluctuations in both of the paramagnetic and the ferromagnetic states. A sum-rule consideration, however, indicates that there still remain fundamental questions concerning the effect of the spin fluctuations on the thermodynamic potential and, therefore, on various physical properties of a metal.
