Abstract

To analyze the interference distribution in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) with different mobile models such as the random waypoint (RWP) model, the Gauss-Markov (GM) model and the reference point group (RPG) model, in this paper, we use a stochastic geometry approach with Poisson point process (PPP) model for investigating the spatial distribution of the interference distribution characteristics in MANETs. Using NS2, we construct a simulation platform using the mechanism of carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA). Then, we analyze the cumulative distribution functions and the probability density functions on the interference distribution with RWP, GM and RPG. It is found that the PPP can model the interference distribution characteristics with the RWP model very well. Hence it can be used for analyzing the performance of MANETs with RWP model. However, it is very different from that those with the GM and RPG models. Therefore, it cannot be used for directly analyzing the performance of MANETs with the GM and RPG model.
