Abstract

For the first time, the sequences of the intron b/c of the mitochondrial Nad1 gene were determined in representatives of 13 Vicia species. The sequences of the gene intron in these species were shown to be highly conservative. In total, 23 variable sites and 11 indels were identified, with the intron length being 1421–1447 bp. The main elements of the intron secondary structure and the interdomain interaction sites were determined on the basis of pre-mRNA intron folding. The characteristics of the primary and secondary structure of the Nad1 intron in Vicia were described.
