Abstract

AbstractCharacterization of the STA1600 CCD for the high‐resolution spectrograph Potsdam Echelle Polarimetric and Spectroscopic Instrument (PEPSI) is presented. We tested the fixed‐pattern noise reduction efficiency with sufficient number of master flat fields and show that the noise reduction follows the expected value. The lateral charge diffusion is measured with photon transfer technique versus CCD binning factor and by measuring the change of spectral lines width versus their amplitude. The charge diffusion effect versus wavelength follows the behavior of the back‐illuminated CCD while also showing a strong positional dependence on the CCD.
