Abstract

Energetic output performance of PVU-2/A percussion ignition devices were characterized utilizing a closed-bomb. The ignition device closed-bomb test fixture allows for repeatable application of firing input energy and measurement of ignition device output pressure as a function of time throughout the required pretest conditioning temperature range (-650F to 2000F). One 2010 lot, two 2004 lots and one 1993 lot of PVU-2/A ignition devices were subjected to the closed bomb testing to measure ignition device output pressure profiles and ignition delay at temperatures other than ambient. The results show noticeable output pressure variations between the PVU-2/A lots measured that were manufactured over a 17 year period.
