Abstract

The aim of the study was a detailed characterization of pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs), which play a pivotal role in the stromal reaction of pancreatic cancer and chronic pancreatitis. The stroma of pancreatic carcinomas (n=10) and chronic pancreatitis cases (n=12) was evaluated by means of histochemistry and immunohistochemistry. PSCs were also analyzed by immunofluorescence. As a result, a marker panel consisting of 6 proposed and 6 novel PSC markers was created.
