Abstract

Natural head movements have been recorded and analyzed to gain insight into an array of sensory and motor processes. This chapter provides an overview of methods that are used to measure head movements and scientific questions that can be addressed with natural head movement data. Specifically, sub-sections of the chapter focus on orienting head movements, head movements during locomotion, and comprehensive recordings of head movements across a range of natural activities. The chapter concludes with a summary of the current state of knowledge and a discussion of potential areas for future research.
