Abstract

Erbium Doped fiber amplifiers are used to generate high-power or high-energy output by amplifying the continuous wave (CW) or pulsed input signals from master oscillators. Theoretical modelling and numerical simulations are important for designers to investigate the steady-state or dynamic characteristics of such amplifier and optimize their performance. Based on the Giles Model, the dynamic characteristics of Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier for the amplification of microsecond pulses with kilohertz repetition rates are analyzed. Dependency of Erbium ion density on the amplitude and shape of the pulse is detailed in the paper.
