Abstract

AbstractEight microsatellite DNA markers were isolated and characterized from white bearded manakin (Manacus manacus) using an enrichment cloning procedure. A large number of alleles (range 9–25), and high levels of observed heterozygosity (mean 0.67) were resolved in 236 individuals. No evidence for linkage disequilibrium or the presence of null alleles was found, indicating that these markers will be useful for examining genetic relatedness, parentage and population structure in manakins.
