Abstract

Abstract In this study, Polymer blend films were prepared using glycerol (GLY) mixed oxidized maize starch (OMS) at different compositions and constant composition of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) by solvent casting method. The prepared blend films were flexible and transparent coded as PVA/OMS/GLY and characterized using Universal Testing Machine (UTM), Differential Scanning Colorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) to known the tensile strength and elongation at break, glass transition temperature (Tg), thermal stability and interaction between the components of the blend films. Also, we have studied the water solubility of the blend films which indicates the prepared blend films are highly soluble in water compare to pure PVA.
