Abstract

A theoretical method of determining the suitability of a material for use in elastic surface wave applications as well as the most suitable crystallographic directions for such uses will be described using the elastic, piezoelectric, and dielectric matrices of the crystal class to which the material belongs. The behavior of the more frequently used materials such as SiO3, LiNbO3, and Cds will be discussed. Directions of energy flow for different orientations in these materials will be derived.
