Abstract

Low molecular weight polyvinyl alcohol, used in the paper industry as a pigment coating adhesive, was tested as a re-sizing agent used in paper restoration to strengthen decayed papers. All of the tests (pH, degree of polymerisation, folding endurance, tensile strength, opacity, blue reflectance and reversibility) done after accelerated aging in different ambient conditions and for various lenghts of time resulted in very good results for the tested type of polyvinyl alcohol for the intended purpose
