Abstract

Background: Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) have an increased risk for cardiovascular disorders. RA is often associated with left ventricle (LV) systolic dysfunction, however the contribution of chronic inflammatory burden on cardiac functional impairment is not completely understood. Recently, LV systolic dysfunction in heart failure is associated with the down regulation and impairment of neuregulin-1 (NRG1)/Receptor Tyrosine Kinase 2 and 4 (Erbb2 and Erbb4) pathway. Aim: To address potential cardiac dysfunction in association with the expression of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines as well as NRG1/Erbb in LV tissue samples in a chronic TNF-driven inflammatory, erosive arthritis model.
