Abstract

Abstract An intermolecular alkyl transfer reaction which leads to an ion-pair has been observed for internal salts of different structural classes analyzed by Laser Mass Spectrometry. Ion pair production during this reaction has been detected by both positive and negative ion laser desorption mass spectrometry. Negative ion laser desorption mass spectra of high intensity, complementing information obtained from positive ion laser desorption mass spectra, are comparable to the results from field desorption mass spectrometry.
