Abstract

Photoacoustic microscopy, in which modulated light is absorbed by an opaque material and converted into a thermal wave, can be used as an in-situ technique for determining the thermal diffusivity of the material.1–5 If a microscope is used to image the light onto a heterogeneous sample containing different components embedded in a matrix, the thermal diffusivities of components as small as fifty micrometers can be probed.
