Abstract

Azoxy compounds of the type XN(O)NY (diazene oxides) and XNN(O)Y with organic substituents X and Y are known for their potential biological activities. In the present work, fluorinated and chlorinated azo-compounds [CF 3 N(O)NF and CCl 3 N(O)NCl] have been characterized by PM3 method. The isomers of CF 3 NN(O)F (cis- and trans-) are more stable than CF 3 N(O)NF isomers (cis- and trans-) by about 17 kcal mol -1 .The trans-CH 3 NH(O)H is found to be more stable than C 8 -CH 3 N(O)NH by about 13 kcal mol -1 . Similarly trans-CCl 3 NN(O)Cl predicted to be stable than cis-CCl 3 NN(O)Cl by about 10 kcal mol -1 . The results obtained are in good agreement with other high level theoretical estimates.
