Abstract
To examine H19 gene expression in correlation with the methylation of its associated CpG islands in normal human Sertoli cells. The H19 gene encodes an imprinted maternally expressed non-protein coding transcript and is located near to the insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2) gene. A region of paternal-specific methylation (Differently Methylated Region, DMR) upstream of H19 gene is required for the imprinting of these genes. The region of differential methylation extends distally into the H19 transcriptional unit and includes the promoter and exon 1.
