Abstract

An observational, longitudinal and prospective study was carried out, the objective of which was to characterize Dry Eye Syndrome in the population of employees of the Empac Machine Company, in the period january-december 2019. The universe and sample coincided since all the company workers for N = n = 60. The data collected in the medical record was transferred to a data management system and processed in the Epi-Info system. Percentage was calculated as a summary measure for qualitative variables and the X² statistic was used at 95% certainty. Tearing was the most frequent symptom in 20% of the sample, physical risk factors affected 100% of the workers, and the highest percent of the sample had abnormal tear film rupture time values​with a 76.7 % in the right eye and 70% in the left eye. Most of the workers showed an altered Ferning test, corresponding to pattern III, 66.7% in the right eyes and 60% in the left eyes. 76.67% of the sample had Dry Eye Syndrome and had a higher incidence in women.
