Abstract

The Radiochemistry Division of BARC in collaboration with Waste Management Division, BARC has initiated a programme to study the speciation of the Trombay waste glass and characterize it in terms of the radiation induced damage. A base glass composition (SiO2= 47 mol %, B2O3= 27mol %, Na2O= 14 mol% and BaO= 12 mol %) was chosen as the matrix and transition metal ions viz Cr, Cu, Mn, Fe etc and rare earth ions viz Eu and Gd were chosen as probe ions to study the changes in the chemical environment. The results of our EPR, PL, PAS and PS investigations on these glasses on irradiation by gamma / electron beam have been presented in the proposed talk.
