Abstract

Examination of tissues from a stump-tailed monkey (Macaca arctoides) with a spontaneous lymphoid malignancy by light and electron microscopy confirmed the presence of a diffuse lymphoma of intermediate cell type. Membranes showed positivity with anti-Ia-like antisera and negativity with all other markers. In vitro cocultivation of affected tissues resulted in the isolation of an agent found to have properties idenitical to those described for simian foamy virus type 1. There was no evidence for the presence of oncoviruses.
