Abstract

The liquid crystal light valve (LCLV) is one of the most widely used spatial light modulators in optical information processing research because of its high resolution and large throughput. The Hughes CdS LCLV has the advantages of high sensitivity and high resolution [1-3]. However, it has a relatively slow response dm, especially in the case of low writing light intensity. Recently, an amorphous silicon photoconductor has been used in the LCLV to improve its response time [4]. However, its spectral response is shifted to the longer wavelengths and thus its sensitivity is much lower than the CdS LCLV in the visible spectral region.
