Abstract

AbstractTwenty‐two polymorphic microsatellite loci were isolated and characterized from the Avahi laniger genome. All were polymorphic in both the Eastern Woolly Lemur (A. laniger) and the Western Woolly Lemur (A. occidentalis). One locus, WOOL157, harboured allele structures that were species‐specific. This marker suite will be used in future studies to establish the ranges and population structures of the two Avahi species on the island of Madagascar.
