Abstract

AbstractIn the current research endeavor, pistachio shell filler has been utilized as reinforcement in the epoxy matrix to develop natural filler-based polymer composites. The fabrication of pistachio shell filler (PSF)-based epoxy composites has been done successfully by varying the filler loading by the step size of five, i.e., 5%, 10%, and 15%, respectively. The investigation of the physical, mechanical, and tribological behavior of the developed composites has been done. In the end, TOPSIS analysis was adopted to find out the optimal loading of pistachio shell filler for obtaining better properties among different composites. The current research investigation revealed that pistachio shell filler can be use as potential reinforcement in the development of bio-composites for the non-structural applications. The mechanical responses of the composites fabricated with PSF content significantly dominate the neat epoxy. Wear analysis revealed that at lower load (10 N) and higher PSF loading (15 wt%), developed composites show better wear properties for tribological applications. The TOPSIS results suggested that loading of 5% pistachio shell filler in the epoxy matrix gives the best properties among all developed composites.KeywordsPolymer compositePistachio shell fillerEpoxyTOPSIS
