Abstract

A new route (combustion method) consists of the redox reaction between the respective metal nitrates and urea in a preheated furnace at 500oC was investigated for the synthesis of YPO4:Eu3+ nanocrystals. The nanocrystals thus obtained were then fired at different temperatures from 700oC-900oC for 3 hrs to get better luminescent properties. The incorporation of Eu3+ activator in these nanocrystals was checked by luminescence investigations. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies were carried out to understand surface morphological features and the particle size. The average particle size was less than 25nm. In addition to this, crystal structures of the nanocrystals were also studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) for different dopant concentrations.
