Abstract
Bovine somatotropin (bSt), also known as bovine growth hormone, is produced and released in the bovine anterior pituitary gland. bSt regulates growth in the bovine (Isaksson et al., 1985). Exogenously administered bSt increases the rate of growth in steers (Moseley et al., 1992) and increases milk yield in dairy cows (Machlin, 1973; Peel et al., 1981, 1983). The ability of bSt to increase milk yield is the primary impetus for its commercial development.
