Abstract

The growth of persons living in urban areas directly impacts the increase in the demand for goods and, consequently, urban goods movement. One possible contributor towards more efficient and environmentally friendly commercial transport is the use of bicycles, especially cargo bikes. In this paper, we identify and characterize how bike deliveries are performed in Brazil (from existing companies) and assess whether it is economically viable to substitute motorized vehicles for bicycles in inner cities. The results indicate that within 15 months there will be a financial return for the analysed scenario.
