Abstract

Purpose: This work had as objective to project, test and introduce the results to qualify and quantify the mechanical and physical properties of the Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) polymer, performed in the mechanical tests laboratory of University of Franca (UNIFRAN), according to the ASTM D638-14 standard. The bibliographical survey is justifiable because it is a current topic and there is few availability of material for research about ABS at present. Methods: Using the educational institution’s traction and compression testing machine EMIC, model DL 10000 and the 3D printer model BFB touch – Dual head-smoke case, it was qualified and quantified the properties of this material, from the traction tests on specimens printed in 3D. The methodology was composed by a bibliographical review to introduce a project of specimens that is conforms to the standard ASTM D638-14 and the construction of it with the application of 3D printer from UNIFRAN. Results: The data obtained from the mechanical tests, whose statistic studies compare three different layer thicknesses with four distinct internal fill patterns, showed there is not a significant coefficient of variation, in other words the results are homogeneous, except the values obtained on the modulus of elasticity, which showed a dispersion around the means of the results of the mechanical test. Conclusion: It was obtained materials with different modulus of elasticity only by varying their internal structure.
