Abstract

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the major cause of woman infertility in reproductive age. The incidence of PCOS generally occurs in 6 out of 20 women in their reproductive age. This study aims to determine the characteristics of PCOS patients at Asri Medical Center (AMC), Muhammadiyah Hospital of Yogyakarta. Quantitative research with an observational and descriptive approach was employed. The sample included 39 PCOS patients at AMC. The data were analyzed univariately with frequency distribution. Most of PCOS patients were aged 26–35 years old, had job, had the first menstruation at normal menarche age (12–14 years), were married for more than 1 year, had a family history of diabetes mellitus or DM, were obese, and had insulin resistance with HOMA-IR indicators. Characteristics of PCOS patients at AMC Muhammadiyah Hospital of Yogyakarta can be classified into 2 main factors. First, health factors include age of menarche, body mass index or BMI, family history of DM, and insulin resistance. Second, non-health factors include age, occupation, marital status, and length of marriage.
