Abstract

Some women with hypothalamic amenorrhea (HA) have been found to have polycystic appearing ovaries (PAO). Whether these women have a subclinical form of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has not been determined; the major hormonal difference being the low androgen status of women with HA which is a hallmark feature of PCOS. The objective of this study was to compare the endocrine profiles of women with HA and polycystic appearing ovaries to women with PCOS and to normoovulatory women at baseline and after controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH).
