Abstract

Statistical characteristics of the variability of meteorological parameters of the stratosphere and mesosphere are reviewed for various latitude belts in the winter and summer seasons. Rocketsonde data were used to calculate mean and median values, variance of the meteorological parameters, excess and asymmetry of empirical distributions, probability of deviations and auto- and mutual correlation functions, which enabled the variability of atmospheric processes in various latitude belts to be characterized. The resolution of a sequence of vertical profiles of temperature, pressure, density and wind components with the help of natural orthogonal components made possible the estimation of the scale of wave perturbations responsible for the variations of the parameters in the middle atmosphere.
