Abstract

1. For hydrostations with a small storage capacity of the reservoir located under harsh climatic conditions it is often necessary to provide for the possibility of passing ice through spillway outlets of the dam and to take into account dynamic ice loads when designing mechanical equipment 2. For repairing the spillway part of the dam it is expedient to use caisson gates, and for newly designed hydrostations to provide for fixed parts of the guard gate. 3. Low-cycle fatigue and stress concentration can be one of the possible causes of destruction of the gates. 4. The existing methods of determining the load on the wheel supports of the service gates give a sufficient margin ensuring their long-term operation. The method of determining the load on the side guides of the gates with two points of suspension requires correction. 5. It is recommended to provide a gantry crane for servicing the mechanical equipment of overflow dams having two or more outlets.
