Abstract

A new structure of the multi-transducer point-focusing fan-shaped PPM Shear-Horizontal (SH) wave electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMATs) is proposed and studied in this manuscript. A 3-D model is calculated under certain conditions, and we conclude that the new-designed transducer structure not only focuses the signal to the focal point effectively, but also weakens the signal strength on the other side. The simulation results show that the signal intensity of the focal position is more than three times the amplitude of the signal on the other side. Compared with the signal propagation characteristics of the single-transducer EMAT, the use of the multi-transducer EMAT can control the direction of the beam when the focusing effect is ensured, and the influence of the reflected Wave on the signal extraction is reduced. We also studied the focusing ability of the new transducer structure at different offset angles, aperture angles and focal radii. It is shown in the study that the smaller offset angles, focusing radii and larger aperture angles can further increase the focusing ability of the new-designed transducers.
