Abstract

AbstractThe main parameters of defining the characteristics of a reflection type holographic optical element, such as diffraction efficiency, the wavelength of the maximum reflection, spectral- and angular selectivity, and grating vector directions are measured with a wide angle diverging beam incidentnormal to the element. Dark ring patterns in the intensity distribution of the beam transmitted throughthe element allow to determine visually the parameter values. The features of the rings, such as size, shape, thickness, intensity distribution and direction of deviation relative to the center of the distribution are analyzed to determine the parameter values. The results are closely matched with those predicted theoretically. key words : holographic optical element, diffraction efficiency, angular and spectral selectivities, grating vector, dark ring 1 . Introduction Diffraction efficiency, both spectral and angular selectivities and grating vector direction are mainparameters characterizing a holographic optical element(HOE). Among these parameters, the diffractionefficiency is the only parameter to be measured physically in the conventional method. Both spectraland angular selectivities are determined by measuring the diffraction efficiency values for different
