Abstract

The increase in pressure drop across the filter in high-gradient magnetic separation process has been examined experimentally. Spongy nickel with irregular-shaped skeleton was used as the magnetic filter and magnetite slurry was filtrated. Discussion of the pressure drop was carried out on the basis of particle deposit in the filter. For the sponge with 0.3 mm foam size, the pressure gradient increased proportionally with the local specific deposit. Empirical correlations for the characteristics of pressure drop were also obtained.
