Abstract

The Kizil River is the first major tributary of the Kashgar River basin and an important research area for ecological protection and high-quality development of the watershed in the southern Xinjiang region. In order to grasp the composition structure and ecological environment status of the plankton in the Kizil River, two aquatic ecological surveys were conducted in the Weihe River in two periods in May and September 2020 to study and analyze the characteristics of the plankton community structure of the Kizil River and its influencing factors. The survey results showed that there were 28 species of phytoplankton in 4 phyla, mainly diatoms and green algae, accounting for 71.43% and 14.29% of the total number of species, respectively; and 14 species of zooplankton in 3 classes, including 7 species of rotifers, 4 species of protozoa and 3 species of copepods. The dominant organisms in Kizil River in the abundant water period are Spirogyra communis, Arcella sp. and Rotaria tardigrada; in the dry water period, the dominant organisms mainly are Spirogyra sp., Navicula oblonga, Navicula simplex, Nebela barbata and Arcella sp. The plankton community structure tends to be simple; the average mean value of Shannon-Weiner diversity index (H') of plankton in Kizil River is 1.8256 in the abundant water period, which is moderate pollution; in the dry water period it is 2.2712, which is mild pollution; redundancy analysis shows that COD, TN, TP and pH are the main environmental factors affecting the phytoplankton community structure, and COD and TN are the main environmental factors affecting the zooplankton community structure. The anthropogenic activities have changed the environmental factors in the water of Kizil River to a certain extent, thus affecting the structural succession of the zooplankton community. This study can provide basic data for the ecological restoration and resource protection and development of the Kizil River.
