Abstract

Characteristic of n-Pb0.88Sn0.12Te spin-flip Raman (SFR) laser pumped by a TE CO2 laser has been studied. For the laser cavity, a crystal with ne=1017 cm-3 at 77 K and dimension of 5×4×3 mm3 is used. The lasing threshold is 0.6 MW·cm-2 at the pump frequency of 10.54 µm. The Stokes frequency shift up to 100 cm-1 is obtained at magnetic field of 41 kG. The tuning rate is slightly dependent on magnetic field and the typical value is about 2.65 cm-1·kG-1. The resonance enhancement in the SFR gain is confirmed by the measurement of the pump wavelength dependence or the output power. The variation of the Stores output power with magnetic field is tentatively understood in terms of magnetic field dependences of the resonance enhancement, the population difference in up and down spin sub-levels and the fundamental absorption loss of the pump light.
