Abstract

Abstract This article analyses the main characteristics of marine power plants, which include internal combustion engines (ICE) and gas turbine engines (GTE). At the same time, gas turbines are considered in comparison with aircraft engines. The study considers the possibility of using the acoustic emission (AE) method to evaluate the fatigue resistance of critical elements of ICE and GTE, based on the valve block in the ICE and turbine rotor blades. AE criteria for determining the growth of fatigue cracks are analysed, a method for evaluating individual durability and a method for calculating crack length are proposed.
