Abstract
A few measurements were made of the saturation characteristics of the SF6 absorption at the 10.6μm P-branch of CO2 lasers. 1) The observed nonlinear absorption properties can be divided into two characteristic regions, namely P (12)-P (22) and P (24)-P (30), each of which has distinctive features in themeasured transmission as a function of incident radiation intensity. 2) Eitherthe gas pressure effects of SF6, or He and N2 gas additive effects were studiedto increase the contrast ratio for the gain isolation in a CO2 laser system. 3) Theabsorption spectrum was red shifted as the incident radiation intensity was increased. 4) The characteristics of the induced transmission or absorption wer observed by apump-probe technique, at the region of the probe beam P (12)-P (22) or P (24)-P (30), respectively, in coincidence with these of the nonlinear absorption.
