Abstract

The results of a four-year study to determine the characteristics of distribution system fault currents are presented. Fault data from thirteen utilities was recorded on multi-channel digital fault recorders, with supplementary information recorded on utility questionnaires. Statistical distribution of such parameters as fault current magnitude, dc offset, X/R ratios, fault duration, and fault I2t values are included.
