Abstract

AbstractThe Editor's Choice [1] is a theoretical study of the excitonic emission properties in diamond, in particular with regard to possible Bose–Einstein condensation (BEC). The cover picture shows a simple phase diagram for electron–hole pairs in dependence on their density and temperature. It is predicted that exciton BEC does occur for highly excited exciton densities, e.g. on the order of 1018–1019 cm–3, at low temperatures. The first author, Hideyo Okushi, started to study homoepitaxial CVD diamond films for electronic devices in 1995, now at AIST. Since 2001, he has been the leader of the CREST project “Ultraviolet nanodevices using high‐density exciton in diamond”.This issue contains papers presented at SBDD X. This year saw the 10th anniversary of the series of International Workshops on Surface and Bulk Defects in CVD Diamond Films, which are traditionally held in Diepenbeek‐Hasselt, Belgium.
