Abstract

A study was made of the kinetics of emission from a neodymium laser subjected to selective pulsed pumping. The influence of the excitation energy relaxation processes on the shape of the stimulated emission pulses was determined for pumping of neodymium glasses in short-base resonators by radiation pulses of 2 nsec duration and 0.53 ..mu.. wavelength. A numerical model was developed for the description of the lasing kinetics of neodymium glasses subjected to selective pulsed pumping. The time constants of the relaxation of the excitation energy from the /sup 4/G/sub 7/2/ level to the metastable /sup 4/F/sub 3/2/ level of Nd/sup 3 +/ ions were estimated for silicate (GLS-14) and phosphate (KNFS) glasses.
